Since the CyberKnife Cancer Center opened in December 2006, 193 patients were treated at the Center. Seventy-five percent were treated for recurrent or metastatic cancers, many having received prior radiation to the area. The CyberKnife Cancer Center has experienced remarkable growth in all aspects of its CyberKnife program.
Most patients treated on the CyberKnife are Jacksonville residents, but over 10 percent have come from elsewhere in Florida and Georgia, with the most distant patient coming from Hawaii.
Director of the CyberKnife Center, Allison Grow, M.D., Ph.D stated the fast growth of both in terms of the number of patients treated and in the expansion of the practice has been very gratifying to all involved in the project.
"There are currently only 79 CyberKnife centers operating in the US, so people are often willing to travel to obtain a treatment option not otherwise available," says Dr. Grow. "We are currently the third businest CyberKnife Center in the country and have patients that contact us from as far away as Australia to request possible treatment with us."
