ER Wait Times Now Available Via Text Messaging
June 01, 2009
Memorial Hospital and Orange Park Medical Center, along with other Florida and South Carolina HCA hospitals are now offering potential emergency room patients how long the wait is before they make the trip.
Patients can text 23000 with the word ER in the text body to find out the wait time from their cell phone. A text message will respond, requiring the users’ zip code, and will reply back with the average ER wait time for their closest facility. It also provides a toll free number where users can speak to a Registered Nurse regarding medical questions or physician referrals. The wait times are also posted online at www.memorialhospitaljax.com and www.opmedical.com.
"This technology provides our patients with information that has never been available before,” James B. Wood, President & CEO of Memorial Hospital said. “This allows our patients to check, before they even step out of their house, just how long the wait will be when they arrive.”
Times posted via text messaging on Memorial and Orange Park’s websites represent the average time it takes a patient to see a physician after arrival. After registration, patients are assessed by medical personnel before seeing a physician. Wait times are updated twice an hour and represent a four hour average. Times are approximate and provided for informational purposes only.
