Memorial Hospital Stands Alone In Jacksonville

September 24, 2012

Jacksonville, FL – Once again, Memorial Hospital is the only Jacksonville hospital to be named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by the Joint Commission. This is the second year in a row Memorial has earned this important distinction, something achieved by fewer than 8% of hospitals nationwide.

Memorial was recognized for its performance in the following four categories: Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.

“This is a great achievement,” said Memorial Hospital President & CEO James O’Loughlin. “Our entire team is dedicated to patient safety and this recognition shows that we are a national leader in improving patient outcomes.”

Only 18% of hospitals in the country were named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures. The list was included in the recently released "Improving America's Hospitals: The Joint Commission Annual Report on Quality and Safety 2012."

"Making the Top Performers list is no easy feat. I salute these organizations for their hard work in attaining excellence. By consistently using evidence-based treatments, their patients are getting better hospital care," said Mark R. Chassin, M.D., president, The Joint Commission.

This is the latest in a series of independent studies that have given Memorial Hospital positive marks for patient safety. Consumer Reports ranked Memorial in the top 10% of hospitals in Florida for patient safety. U.S. News & World Report named Memorial a Top Regional Hospital and Memorial received positive scores for patient safety from the independent Leapfrog Group.
