Memorial Hospital will begin work on a major expansion to its Southside facility next year, the hospital announced this week.
The hospital, which is part of HCA, announced a $23 million expansion to its emergency department, which will begin in early 2017 and continue for between 18 to 24 months.
The project will include not only a significant addition in square footage, but also a consolidation of the main emergency department and the pediatric emergency department. Memorial describes the goal of combining those two departments as a way of "streamlining care for patients and staff." The pediatric emergency department – called ExpressKids – is currently across the parking lot from the emergency department, ExpressCare. As part of the consolidation, Memorial's pediatric ER rooms, entrance and waiting area will be moved to the main ER building.
