Robotic & Minimally Invasive Procedures
As an alternative to the traditional open heart surgery, Memorial Hospital’s Heart Center brings you minimally invasive heart surgery. These cutting edge heart surgeries use the daVinci® Robot and very small incisions. This results in less pain and a quicker return to normal activity.
Minimally invasive heart surgery can be used for the following procedures:
- Coronary bypass surgery
- Valve surgeries, including mitral valve
- Surgery to treat atrial fibrillation
- Various defect surgeries
There are many advantages of minimally invasive heart surgery. The smaller incisions result in minimal scarring, less blood loss and a lower risk of infection. Since the breastbone is not split, there is also reduced trauma and pain, resulting in a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery so you can get back to the things you love to do. Minimally invasive surgery may not be right for everyone however. Your cardiologist will work with you to determine if it is the best option to help you.
