Memorial Hospital is planning a $23 million expansion of its emergency department.
The project will include 23,000 square feet of new space, renovation of the existing space, relocation of the pediatric ER rooms, a new rooftop helipad and other changes.
Currently, ExpressCare and ExpressKids are located across the ER parking lot. The expansion will put them all under one roof.
The emergency department at Memorial on University Boulevard is the busiest in town, President & CEO Jim O’Loughlin said in the announcement. A spokeswoman said it had about 80,500 visits to the emergency room in 2011. It expects 121,000 visits this year.
Work is expected to begin early next year and take 18-24 months to complete.Read the entire article at The Florida Times Union Jacksonville >>
