May is National Stroke Awareness Month

Jacksonville, FL – Memorial Hospital Jacksonville will be offering free stroke screenings on Friday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a free stroke seminar with Director of Neurology, LaTeya Foxx, DO, discussing the signs, symptoms and risk factors for stroke in the Auditorium from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the hospital (3625 University Blvd. S, Jacksonville, FL 32216).

“Stroke screening can prevent a devastating illness,” said Dr. Foxx. “People in their 50’s should consider regular health checks to determine if any major risk factors are present. We are offering free stroke screenings this week as part of May being National Stroke Awareness Month. There’s no excuse not to swing by Memorial Hospital to take advantage of this opportunity.”

More than 140,000 people die each year from a stroke, which is the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States. Approximately 800,000 people suffer a stroke each year of which according to the National Stroke Association, 10% recover almost completely, with 25% recovering with minor impairments.
