ICU

The ICU, or intensive care unit, is the department of the hospital where you can receive specialized care and monitoring from multidisciplinary care teams. You may need to be in the ICU during times of critical illness or after certain surgeries, to ensure you recover fully.

Cardiac intensive unit in Jacksonville

HCA Florida Memorial Hospital offers patients access to a special type of intensive care unit (ICU) — a cardiovascular ICU.

If you're having severe heart problems, this heart-focused ICU allows us to provide you with the advanced support you need. We understand you and your family will be faced with difficult experiences and complex emotions during your time in the cardiovascular ICU. Just know that our specially trained, multidisciplinary team is always working to keep you all comfortable and informed. Through our intensive heart care services, you will also get around-the-clock monitoring, making sure we get you the care you need as soon as you need it.

Patients who benefit from a cardiac ICU

There are various reasons a patient could be admitted to our cardiac ICU. Patients may be admitted if they:

  • Are diagnosed with a life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia
  • Are recovering from heart surgery
  • Require close monitoring following severe heart failure

Our CICU services

Our 18-bed cardiac ICU is the only one in the area where you can stay in the unit for your entire hospitalization. So, if you are admitted to the cardiovascular ICU, you can remain in the same room until discharge (unless a change in your condition requires a move to another department or area).

Complete heart care in one location

Along with our heart and vascular surgery services and cardiac rehabilitation programs, the cardiac ICU offers a complete continuum of care. It is a critical and unique offering that lets us give you ongoing support and treatments even if you have severe heart problems.

Our cardiac ICU care team

Additionally, during your time in the cardiac ICU, you have quick access to a full range of experts. In addition to our cardiologists and cardiovascular specialists, this comprehensive team includes:

  • Critical care nurses and physicians
  • Dietitians
  • Physical and occupational therapists
  • Respiratory therapists
  • Speech and language therapists

They will work together with you and your family to help you recover safely and effectively.
